Sent on the 10th of July, 2006
On the first official day of Stampede 2006, some Collegues and I decided to stop at Armando's for some drinks and a light dinner(Salads etc. nothing too fancy). This was everyone's first time here and we were amazed to find empty tables on the patio on such a hot day. 4 of us ordered alcoholic drinks and 2 had pop or water, this was after a 10 minute wait to see our server. After another 10 minutes our drinks arrived, the beer was very warm, room temperature really. When we asked for a bucket of ice for our warm beer we were told that the server had-had many complaints that day about the warm beer and that the "beer cooler" must be broken. In most places we would have been told that upon ordering. When the waiter finally came back to take our orders we ordered 3 salads, 2 bruschetta and one other appetizer. One of the salads ordered was a small ceasar salad (an option on the menu) with chicken added if possible. Once our food arrived, the waiter left never to return to check on how our food was or if anyone wanted another drink (which we had decided we did not). The wait was so long that when one of our party had to leave, she went inside to pay debit and was treated very rudely by this waiter. When we saw him again, we asked for the bill as the rest of us had-had enough and decided to go elsewhere, When the bill came, we were all amazed that it was for $92. Taking a closer look we noticed that the portion of the bill that was already paid for was not taken off and that there was no small ceasar add chicken, there was only an $11 chicken ceasar (the chicken ceasar that we were given was extremly small, came on a plate and had three tiny pieces of chicken on top). We called the waiter over and informed him that he had not taken the amount paid off the bill, and that we had ordered a Small Salad with Chicken. He then said, "we don't have a small ceasar salad" to which we pointed out was on the menu and that is why it was ordered. If we could not have a small salad with chicken then again, we should have been told. Don't put it on our bill as something we did not order. At this time the waiter said "I already told you that one part of this has been paid"(he did not mention how much) and then ripped the money out of one of my collegues hands and grabed the black bill holder while stating "and the service forget about it" and stormed off. We just sat there amazed at what had just happend. Some of us had not paid and we did not know the amount already paid so now we were unsure of what we owed. It's a good thing we are an honest bunch as one of our group went in to pay, just before she stepped inside the waiter came crashing aroung the corner with a calculater in hand and said,"I only have $87.50 here" in which he was told that had he not grabbed the money and stormed off he would have realized we were in the process of figuring out our bill. My Collegue who went into pay the remaining portion was completly ignored by the waiter while putting the rest of the bill on her debit card. The only sentance spoken was,"I thought you guys were mad at me". Any other conversation made by this waiter was done while answering the phone and yelling accross the restaurant (inside)to his collegue about passing on phone messages and to tell so and so the phone was for them. The restaurant had ONE occupant and the patio (which is quite small) had 2 empty tables on it. Being this slow, this level of customer service is un-called for. None of us have ever had such terrible customer service that it is now no doubt to us that the patio was empty, let alone the rest of the restaurant. I cannot recall having customer service so bad at any point in my life, not even in a busy, crowded, bustling restaurant. It is a shame that this is how tourists and Calgarians are treated when they go out for dinner. Especially when we are supposed to be showcasing how amazing this city is, during Stampede. I do not reccomend this restaurant to anyone until they do a serious review of the meaning of customer service. I also reccomend that they teach their staff not to act like two year olds and grab money out of customer's hands while storming away. I for one will never return to this restaurant and feel quite confident that the other 5 people in my party will never return or reccomend Armando's. We all work for an international company, where we have the opportunity to take our employee's and clients alike, out for lunch meetings etc. I am so glad that my experience with Armando's was not under these circumstances as I would have been extremly humiliated. Rest assured Armando's will never be one of our "meeting" or social locations.
